De afkorting staat voor Advanced Multi-agent Information and Control for Integrated multi-class traffic networks.

2015, Article / Letter to editor (Proceedings of the 20th International Symposium on Logistics, vol. 2015, iss. 20, (2015), pp. 442-449)More than before fashion is sold through e-channels and this implies an increase in e-logistics. Shop selling stagnates. But as fashion sales handled through e-channels is becoming a substantial part of the business, succesfully managing such a channel is a challange for almost all fashion retailers. This research maps the logistics structures of the diffrent fashion e-tailers, and obtains insight in the patterns how product are distributed and returned. The involved logistics structures differ strongly from the logistics structures towards fashion shops in the high street, especially for its return flows. We describe which parts of the logistics flows are most vulnerable, and which KPI’s as compared with regular supply chains. Delivery appears to be an important part of the total customers experience. Controlling, applying KPI’s and improving efficieny during the e-fulfilment phase is considered essentially by companies to become more competitive and financially succesful. We found that the number of KPI’s seems tob e related tot he width of the product range and the price level. Our research gives a clear view how fashion chains are coping with e-logistics and how this relates to existing theoretical models. Especially the control on goods returned, which has not been done much before in-depth. This is important to know, as fashion chains urgently ask for a better understanding of the question show to manage e-tailing and which KPI’s may suit to what conditions. The research offers several practical recommendations tot he industry on this aspect.

2012, Part of book or chapter of book (, pp. 43-60)This paper presents the findings of a research project on the competencies which supply chain managers in the fashion industry need to rely on, in order to perform successfully in their job. In this research project 21 supply chain managers in the fashion industry in the Netherlands have been interviewed. Together they are responsible for the distribution of goods towards 1,550 owned/franchised outlets and towards about 6,600 re-seller outlets, which is about half of all fashion retail outlets in the Netherlands. The results give a clear picture of the competencies required of a logistics and supply chain manager in the Dutch fashion industry and point to how these competencies have been acquired in practice.

2015, Article / Letter to editor (Facilities, vol. 33, iss. 13/14, (2015), pp. 775-793)Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore how corporate real estate (CRE) managers of higher education institutions formulate their CRE strategies and CRE operating decisions to align CRE with the corporate strategies of these institutions. Design/methodology/approach – An analytical alignment framework has been developed, which was used to study the possible and actual connections between CRE management and corporate management at 13 large Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences. The data collection included a content analysis of the strategic plans of these universities and interviews with the CRE managers. Findings – The research findings show several layers of how CRE managers aim to align CRE with corporate goals to add value to the organization. It appears that the CRE strategies in-use are more clearly aligned with the corporate strategies than with the espoused CRE strategies. Practical implications – The paper emphasizes the relevance of involving CRE management in corporate decision-making to contribute to the attainment of the organizational objectives with an efficient and effective accommodation. Originality/value – Substantial changes in learning and teaching practices in higher education lead to evolving corporate strategies, which result in the need for aligned CRE strategies and CRE operating decisions. This paper makes practitioners and researchers aware of the differences between alignment-based espoused CRE strategies and alignment that results from CRE strategies in-use in the field of higher education. The findings and insights might be applicable in other sectors as well.
2012, Part of book or chapter of book (Vervoerslogistieke Werkdagen 2012, pp. 405-417)To what extent will future demands of worldwide operating parties, regarding the (tertiary) packaging of their freight flows, determine or influence the future dimensions of freight trucks? That is the question we address to in this paper. In this study we have studied what container sizes may fit in the future demands of world trade and freight flows. We have identified several trends and studied its possible impact on the sizes of the truck of the future. Two serial projects have been carried out within the framework of the HTAS-EMS research program, in which amongst others MAN, University of Technology Eindhoven, TNO and HAN University of Applied Sciences cooperate in order to determine the requirements for the truck of the future. The first two projects of this research program have been carried out in order to determine possible influences of: - packaging on the requirement of Logistic Service Providers for the next generation of trucks (project I); - the pallet as an influence on the opportunities for intermodality of transport units, within the context of EU trade with emerging economies (project II). The first research project was part of a dissertation program for the MSc program in Logistics and Supply Chain management of the University of Westminster (project I); the second, of a BBA program in Logistics of HAN University of Applied Sciences (project II).
2016, Dissertation This dissertation addresses the alignment of learning space with higher education learning and teaching. Significant changes in higher education the past decades, such as increased information and communication technology (ICT) and new learning theories have resulted in the dilemma whether higher education institutions can facilitate tomorrow’s learning and teaching in today’s or even yesterday’s school buildings. In practice, this results in the managerial question:
‘How can higher education institutions align the physical learning environment with the developments in learning and teaching?’.
2008, Article / Letter to editor (LogForum, vol. 2008, iss. 1, (2008))Educating students to become a logistics professional, requires a certain set of competences to be attained. This study investigates which competences are required in logistics business practise, and whether a differentiation may be noticed in the actual profiles of logistics professional. It shows that educational institutions could fine tune training their students according to the required abilities, skills and attitudes
2015, Article / Letter to editor (Facilities, vol. 33, iss. 1/2, (2015), pp. 2-19)Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the spatial implications of new learning theories and the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in higher education. Design/methodology/approach – Based on a review of the literature, a theoretical framework has been developed that visualises the spatial implications of developments in higher education. To further explore spatial configurations that support changes in education, a comparative floor plan analysis was carried out at four Dutch institutes of higher education. Findings – The findings show that the traditional classroom space is progressively being replaced by a variety of learning settings to support contemporary learning activities. Practical implications – The research findings contribute to a better understanding of the alignment of learning space to the evolving needs that come from new ways of learning, supported by advanced ICT, and can be used to support space planning in higher education. Originality/value – This paper builds upon findings from different disciplines: Facilities Management and Corporate Real Estate Management (suitability of floor plans) and Theory of Education (the pedagogical approaches and pedagogical assumptions those floor plans convey).
