Innovative Approaches to Improve Sustainability of Physical Distribution in Dutch Agrifood Supply Chains

Dit geldt ook voor bedrijven die opereren in een landbouw supply chain. De meeste literatuur beschrijft het verminderen van voedselverlies of voedselveiligheid, maar er is weinig aandacht besteedt aan hoe organisaties die opereren in landbouw supply chains nieuwe technieken en innovaties gebruiken om fysieke distributie duurzamer te maken. Dit artikel beschrijft een onderzoek over bedrijven in deze supply chains en hoe nieuwe innovaties gebruikt worden. Hiervoor zijn de topmanagers van veertien Nederlandse bedrijven geïnterviewd: zes logistieke dienstverleners, drie groothandelaren en vijf foodprocessors. Er is gebleken dat verschillende schakels in de keten de voorkeur hebben voor verschillende innovaties. De foodprocessors hebben de voorkeur voor innovaties voor een reductiestrategie en groothandelaren zijn meer gericht op innovaties gerelateerd aan innovatiestrategieën. De toegepaste innovaties waren niet gelinkt aan de supply chain in het geheel, maar geconcentreerd op een specifiek deel van de supply chain. Dit was meestal geïnitieerd door een partner van buiten de landbouw supply chains.

2013, Part of book or chapter of book (HAN Business Publications, pp. 45-68)As environmental concerns becoming increasingly important to logistics service providers, the question arises as to how they can achieve sustainable physical distribution practices while surviving the severe competition in freight transport. This issue is further complicated by the pressures from the many different shippers involved, public expectations and regulating authorities. Therefore, achieving sustainable physical distribution is definitely a wicked problem. In order to understand how logistics service providers attempt to tackle these problems, a research study was conducted amongst logistics service providers who are frontrunners in implementing sustainability practices and who participate in the Lean and Green program, to promote sustainability within the logistic chain in the Netherlands. Companies willing to participate in this award scheme, must achieve the goal of reducing their CO2 production by 20% within a 5-year-period. The transport market is very competitive and sustainability is just one of the many logistical concerns that service providers must solve. Our research shows that the logistics service providers participating in the Lean and Green scheme preferred solutions which involved cooperative strategies over – third-parties solutions.

Dat is ook in de transportsector het geval. In dit artikel presenteren we, op basis van 40 respondenten, de resultaten van een enquête onder logistieke dienstverleners (LDV’s). Het doel van de enquête was te achterhalen hoe groot de rol is van duurzaamheid in de strategie van LDV’s en hoe zij het belang ervan weten te vertalen naar de praktijk. Deze enquête maakt deel uit van een promotieonderzoek naar de vraag of en hoe beslissingsondersteunende modellen (Decision Support Models of DSM’s) logistieke dienstverleners kunnen helpen bij het ontwikkelen en uitvoeren van hun duurzaamheidstrategie. Het artikel start met een beschrijving van dit hoofdonderzoek, en geeft aan het eind een doorkijkje van het ontwikkelperspectief er van.
