In de bundel staan ruim 40 beschikbare kennisproducten en diensten. Deze zijn bedoeld voor -en zijn ook in nauwe samenwerking ontwikkeld met- professionals en partnerinstellingen in het sociale werkveld, én met collega-docenten en docentonderzoekers van uiteenlopende HAN-opleidingen.

Het is de door mannen meest beoefende zaalsport en de meest beoefende sport door vrouwen (in georganiseerd verband). In Nederland wordt handbal door zo’n 60.000 mensen gespeeld. 70 Procent hiervan is vrouw. Om de jeugd enthousiast te maken voor handbal is het essentieel dat ze al op jonge leeftijd in aanraking komen met de sport. Onderwijs is daarvoor de meest geschikte ingang.

De auteurs menen dat onbekendheid met de sport de oorzaak is waarom handbal weinig wordt aangeboden aan kinderen in het bewegingsonderwijs. Met deze artikelenserie willen we u handvatten bieden waarmee u handbal in het basis- en voortgezet onderwijs kunt aanbieden.

In artikel drie besteden we aandacht aan schijnbewegingen, verdedigen en aan tactische principes. De lesstof in dit artikel is meer geschikt voor de vaardigere handbalspelers. We adviseren het toepassen van schijnbewegingen, verdedigen en tactiek aan bod te laten komen in het derde schooljaar van het voortgezet onderwijs of als leerlingen worden voorbereid op een schoolhandbaltoernooi.

In het derde artikel is oefenstof aangeboden om de meer vaardige leerlingen uitdagende oefeningen aan te bieden. In dit laatste artikel over handbal zullen tactische elementen besproken worden die in de lessen LO in het voortgezet onderwijs kunnen worden behandeld.

Background: Increasing pressure in healthcare settings due to efficiency requirements, population ageing with complex illnesses and projected global shortage of nurses, is a potential threat to nurses’ health and job satisfaction, and patient quality of care and safety. New ways of thinking about nursing leadership and evidencebased human resource management are required to improve nursing environments. Conclusion: Health-promoting leadership may be a promising path to optimizing nursing outcomes through holistic thinking, which emphasizes the importance of context. Accumulated research is required to build a stronger line of international research, with attention to underlying mechanisms, limiting conditions and behaviours known to health-promoting leadership

Het actuele medicatieoverzicht op de polikliniek

2010, Article / Letter to editor (TVZ : verpleegkunde in praktijk en wetenschap, vol. 2010, (2010), pp. 42-46)Op de pijnpoli van de Alysis Zorggroep te Arnhem vraagt de arts tijdens het consult aan de patient naar diens medicijngebruik. Dit kost tijd en patienten weten hun medicatie vaak niet volledig op te sommen of goed te beschrijven. Het afleveroverzicht van de openbare apotheek geeft slechts de afgeleverde recepten weer. Om de overdracht van medicatiegegevens te verbeteren werd een pilotonderzoek uitgevoerd met als vraagstelling of een Actueel Medicatieoverzicht (AMO) dat door de patient thuis wordt ingevuld een juister overzicht iedt van het daadwerkelijk medicijngebruik dan de huidige werkwijze. Het gerandomiseerde onderzoek met controlegroep werd in de periode mei tot en met juli 2008 uitgevoerd op de pijnpoli van de Alysis Zorggroep te Arnhem.

2016, Article / Letter to editor (Disability and Rehabilitation, vol. 38, iss. 3, (2016), pp. 211-217)PURPOSE: To explore rehabilitation professionals' opinions about the influence and the pathways of injury compensation (IC) on health and disability in patients with whiplash associated disorder (WAD). METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were performed among a purposeful selected sample of Dutch expert-professionals in the field of rehabilitation of patients with WAD. Inclusion continued until saturation was reached. Inductive and deductive thematic analyses were performed. RESULTS: Ten rehabilitation expert-professionals (five females), working as physician, psychologist or physiotherapist, were interviewed. All expert-professionals acknowledged that IC can influence rehabilitation, health and disability. The expert-professionals provided three causal pathways; a pathway through prolonged distress, a behavioral pathway, and patient characteristics that may either attenuate or worsen their response. They assess the influence of IC mainly with interview techniques. Most professionals discuss the potential influence of IC with their patients, because they want to give clear information to the patient. Some emphasize that their role is neutral in relation with the IC. Others mention that financial consequences can accompany functional improvement. CONCLUSIONS: Rehabilitation expert-professionals believe that IC may affect rehabilitation, health and disability in patients with WAD. Three pathways are mentioned by the experts-professionals. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: According to rehabilitation expert-professionals, an injury compensation (IC) can lead to distress, by creating a (conscious or unconscious) conflict of interests within a patient between striving for compensation on one hand, and recovery on the other hand. Patient characteristics can either attenuate or worsen IC-related distress. Reliable and valid tools need to be developed to assess the influence of IC on health, disability and rehabilitation, and to limit the negative effects. Rehabilitation professionals can discuss the possible unintended effects of IC with their patients to clarify their current situation.
How older people nurses assess cognitive function through daily observation

A qualitative study with purposive sampling and semi-structured interviews. Methods. Data were obtained by interviewing 10 Dutch nursing experts in the field of cognitive function in older patients. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analysed by two independent researchers. All the respondents stated that daily observation of cognitive function yields valuable information. The concept of cognitive function was operationalised differently by institute and by nurse. Observation and reporting methods varied, as did the goals set by the nurses. Nurses reported using many days of observation to reach final judgements. Observations of cognitive functioning should include several cognitive domains, be restricted to a few days of observation and aim to both contribute to medical diagnoses and guide nursing interventions.

Identities of research-active academics in new universities : towards a complete academic profession cross-cutting different worlds of practice

2017, Article / Letter to editor ((2017), pp. 1-17)This study explores how academics who expanded their teaching-only positions to include research view their (re)constructed academic identity. Participants worked in a higher professional education institution of applied research and teaching, comparable with so-called new universities. The aim is to increase our understanding of variations in academic identity and to be better able to support academics’ ‘role making’ within and across different worlds of practice. Data from semi-structured interviews with 18 academics at a Dutch new university were analysed using a grounded theory approach. This revealed six well-rounded academic identities reflecting participants’ personal scholarly objectives: the ‘continuous learner’, ‘disciplinary expert’, ‘skilled researcher’, ‘evidence-based teacher’, ‘guardian of the research work process’ and ‘liaison officer’. The researcher role served to promote the overall development of participants’ identities. The ‘disciplinary expert’ matured through participation in the academic world and research activities. Participants discovered what ‘being’ and ‘becoming’ a researcher in the new university might entail, and contributed to the professions’ knowledge base. Participants learned to apply various research-based teaching approaches. As brokers, they linked research projects to practices in meaningful ways. The six identities embodied an emergent power in creating and preserving a complete academic profession. Participants’ accounts showed tensions inherent in an extended role portfolio and constraints in ‘role making’ given inconsistencies between the university’s espoused research mission and the one in use. These imply challenges for university managers in aligning policies and practices, and scaffolding academics’ attempts to integrate their academic roles in different worlds of practice.

2022, Article / Letter to editor (Supportive Care in Cancer, (2022))Nutritional intervention is an essential part of cancer treatments. Research and clinical evidence in cancer have shown that nutritional support can reduce length of hospitalisation, diminish treatment-related toxicity, and improve nutrient intake, quality of life, and physical function. Nutritional intervention can improve outcomes and help patients in the successful completion of oncological treatments by preventing malnutrition. Malnutrition is a very common hallmark in patients with cancers. Almost one-fourth of cancer patients are at risk of dying because of the consequences of malnutrition, rather than cancer itself. Patients with digestive cancers are at higher risk of suffering malnutrition due to the gastrointestinal impairment caused by their disease. They are at high nutritional risk by definition, yet the majority of them have insufficient or null access to nutritional intervention.Inadequate resources are dedicated to implementing nutritional services in Europe. Universal access to nutritional support for digestive cancer patients is not a reality in many European countries. To change this situation, health systems should invest in qualified staff to reinforce or create nutritional teams' experts in digestive cancer treatments. We aim to share the patient community's perspective on the status and the importance of nutritional intervention. This is an advocacy manuscript presenting data on the topic and analysing the current situations and the challenges for nutrition in digestive cancers. It highlights the importance of integrative nutrition in the treatment of digestive cancers and advocates for equitable and universal access to nutritional intervention for all patients.

Without the use of a delirium screening instrument, delirium is often missed by ICU nurses and physicians. The effects of implementation of a screening method on haloperidol use is not known. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the implementation of the confusion assessment method-ICU (CAM-ICU) and the effect of its use on frequency and duration of haloperidol use.

The sprinting and dribbling performances, measured by time scoring, (n=14) were tested before and after a twelve week intensive training period. Performance changes were analyzed by means of t-tests for paired data. A correlation matrix described the relation between the changes from T1 to T2 on sprinting and dribbling. Sprinting and dribbling improvements are not directly related to each other, future training programs should contain more specificity and should also be individualized to increase performance improvements.
Improving the governance of patient safety in emergency care: a systematic review of interventions

2016, Article / Letter to editor (BMJ Open, vol. 6, iss. 1, (2016))Objectives: To systematically review interventions that aim to improve the governance of patient safety within emergency care on effectiveness, reliability, validity and feasibility. Design: A systematic review of the literature. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and PsychInfo were searched for studies published between January 1990 and July 2014. We included studies evaluating interventions relevant for higher management to oversee and manage patient safety, in prehospital emergency medical service (EMS) organisations and hospital-based emergency departments (EDs). Two reviewers independently selected candidate studies, extracted data and assessed study quality. Studies were categorised according to study quality, setting, sample, intervention characteristics and findings. Results: Of the 18 included studies, 13 (72%) were non-experimental. Nine studies (50%) reported data on the reliability and/or validity of the intervention. Eight studies (44%) reported on the feasibility of the intervention. Only 4 studies (22%) reported statistically significant effects. The use of a simulation-based training programme and well-designed incident reporting systems led to a statistically significant improvement of safety knowledge and attitudes by ED staff and an increase of incident reports within EDs, respectively. Conclusions: Characteristics of the interventions included in this review (eg, anonymous incident reporting and validation of incident reports by an independent party) could provide useful input for the design of an effective tool to govern patient safety in EMS organisations and EDs. However, executives cannot rely on a robust set of evidence-based and feasible tools to govern patient safety within their emergency care organisation and in the chain of emergency care. Established strategies from other high-risk sectors need to be evaluated in emergency care settings, using an experimental design with valid outcome measures to strengthen the evidence base.

Incidence and short-term consequences of delirium in critically ill patients : A prospective observational cohort study

Reported incidence rates vary to a large extent and there is a paucity of data concerning delirium incidence rates for the different subgroups of intensive care unit (ICU) patients and their short-term health consequences. The delirium incidence in a mixed ICU population is high and differs importantly between ICU admission diagnoses and the subtypes of delirium. Patients with delirium had a significantly higher incidence of short-term health problems, independent from their severity of illness and this was most pronounced in the mixed subtype of delirium. Delirium is significantly associated with worse short-term outcome.

We studied the effect of an RRS on the incidence of cardiac arrests and unexpected deaths. Retrospective before- after study in a university medical centre. We included 1376 surgical patients before (period 1) and 2410 patients after introduction of the RRS (period 2). Outcome measures were corrected for the baseline covariates age, gender and ASA.

2022, Article / Letter to editor (JBI EVIDENCE IMPLEMENTATION, vol. 20, iss. 1, (2022), pp. 21-32)Objectives: Our aim was to incorporate body composition assessment (BCA) into dietetic department procedures using interventions tailored to previously identified barriers and enablers. Introduction: BCA is recommended as part of routine malnutrition assessment and follow-up but is not yet part of usual care. Methods: Evidence-informed strategies to overcome barriers and enablers were operationalized and delivered as three overarching interventions: upskilling (professional development strategy), modelling and reducing fear of change (Clinical Champion project), and embedding as usual practice (departmental integration). Process evaluation assessed intervention fidelity. A survey assessed utilization of BCA devices, (perceived) competency, and attitudes of clinical dietitians towards BCA before and after interventions. Results: Two of the three elements were incorporated as planned (upskilling and embedding as usual practice), with one element (modelling and reducing fear of change) modified through iterative processes. The Clinical Champion project ran for 12 rather than 6 months, and resulted in the majority of champions confident with their skills, completing BCA within their daily clinical workload and feeling BCA was useful. Pre-surveys and post-surveys within the department of 26 dietitians showed a marked reduction in most perceived barriers and improved recognition of enablers across all theoretical framework domains; with a large proportion of 'not applicable' responses given for many barriers at follow-up. Conclusion: This evidence-informed implementation strategy successfully integrated BCA into dietitians' practice and departmental processes highlighting direction for future service changes. Continual assessment of barriers and success of integration into routine workloads is required to facilitate this.

We propose the use of data model patterns, organized in a pattern language, and based on Fully Communication Oriented Information Modeling (FCO-IM) as the modeling approach, as a standard to produce high quality data models. We introduce the concept of Information Grammar for Pattern (IGP) which works as a kind of template to generate FCO-IM?s Information Grammar (IG). IGP is also used to define the relations among patterns. Based on how they are abstracted, we also define 3 types of IGP. The IGP provides the basic idea for the pattern language of data model patterns based on the relations among patterns.

Innovatie wordt door de overheid als noodzaak gezien om economische groei te realiseren. De achterliggende gedachte daarbij is, dat de traditionele Europese productie-industrie minder concurrerend op de wereldmarkten is.
